HISTORY
The school began its work on September 1, 1946, with the inauguration of the Chemical Technology Department within the Secondary Technical School (three-year vocational school). Subsequently, the four-year course of the Chemical Technical School was established on July 13, 1960 in Zagreb, at Klaićeva no. 7.
In January 1978, the school reformed to the Chemical Technology Education Centre (KTOC).
The school moved to its current location, Ulica grada Vukovara 269, in 1964, and the Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering department opened in 1982. The first two classes of beauticians were enrolled in 1995, while the school began to implement the vocational programme of environmental technician in the school year 1999/2000. Experimental Natural Sciences programme was introduced in the 2004/2005 school year.
The year 2005, with the change of the school name to Vladimir Prelog Science School, marked the introduction of a new chapter of the school.
Starting with the 2009/2010 school year, our school has been incorporating a sports department into its gymnasium programme.
Finally, thanks to the “In English, please” project, we introduced our first gymnasium study programme of Natural Sciences – Bilingual Department, with classes both in Croatian and English in the 2016/2017 school year.
ABOUT SCHOOL
The school offers secondary and vocational education with an emphasis on natural sciences. School plans and programmes are adapted to the European standards, and the educational period spans four years.
Our classes are conducted in air-conditioned, technologically advanced classrooms. Practical and experimental learning takes place in our six state-of-the-art scientific laboratories, two fully-equipped beauty salons, and two cosmetic laboratories. As a part of their practical training, our students participate in the production of liquid soap, chalk, and distilled water.
The school enrolls 1150 students and employs 90 teachers. It boasts a 70-year teaching tradition and today offers the following programmes: natural sciences gymnasium, chemical technician, geological technician, environmental technician and beautician.
The school provides a library to students for leisure, study, and class preparation. Additional facilities include a gym, a sports hall and various school clubs and organizations, such as a volunteer club, a literary club, an astronomy club, a school band, as well as art and dance workshops, which provide opportunities for students to explore and foster their creativity and talents.
Many of our students have been acknowledged for their achievements in various academic competitions (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, History, etc.), but also for their achievements in extracurricular activities such as sports (football, basketball, volleyball, handball) and art (dance and drama groups). After a busy school day, students may relax in the school’s botanical garden or tend to the animals housed in the on-site school zoo.
